Green Fuels Compression Station
Gentec has long been promoting natural gas as a preferable substitute to conventional liquid fuels throughout the developing world; being cleaner and cheaper than petrol or diesel, natural gas offers both financial incentive and environmental benefits. In many parts of the developing world, such as Nigeria, the natural gas distribution infrastructure is not adequate and the majority of the country do not have access to piped natural gas. Green Fuels Nigeria Ltd (GFL) is a newly created joint venture company involving industrial giants the Tower and Lexcel groups of companies. The pilot project for GFL is a compression facility in Otta, Ogun State, with the aim of compressing pipeline gas to 200-250 bar and transporting the compressed natural gas (CNG) to remote locations without access to piped gas. This station represents the largest installed capacity in Africa today.
The entire concept to commissioning project for this pilot station was conducted by Gentec, capitalizing on our own in-house expertise and experience along with critical inputs from our network of partners. The project itself consists of gas treatment, compression, delivery system into transport units, all associated civil works, and extraordinarily stringent fire and gas safety and protection measures.

The GFL compression station houses 3 reciprocating compressor units to a total output capacity of 6,600 standard cubic meters (scm) of CNG per hour, along with all the necessary paneling and fittings. Prior to entering the compressors, piped gas is directed through a specialized gas filtration and treatment vessel, to ensure consistent quality of input gas. Once compressed, the CNG is distributed to filling units, which act as the delivery system to load the transport units with the CNG. The yard itself is completely paved with concrete, and is adequately sized to provide maneuvering space for trucks and trailer units up to 40 feet long. Traffic management considerations were brought into the design, resulting in not only an adequate yard, but one that can run at optimum efficiency, with ease of site management.
Gentec was responsible for the entire project on a turnkey basis, including design, procurement, project management, testing, and commissioning. The project is intended as a pilot, and future plans to replicate the facility across the nation exist.
